John O'Mahony TD was elected to the 30th Dáil on May 24, 2007
John O’Mahony TD, understands the county and the needs of the its many communities. John wants to bring a new face and a fresh approach to politics and ensure Mayo gets the opportunities it deserves. He was first elected to Dáil Éireann on May 24, 2007. He was appointed Deputy Spokesperson on Arts, Sport & Tourism with Special Responsibility for Sport, October, 07.
A native of Kilmovee, John taught for many years at St Nathy’s College, Ballaghadereen, but is now engaged in politics full-time. He is married to Gerardine (nee Towey) they have five daughters.
He won All Ireland football titles playing for Mayo Minors and Under 21s in 1971 and 1974, respectively.
He managed Mayo Under-21s to an All-Ireland title in 1983, before going on to manage the Mayo senior team to back-to-back Connacht titles in 1988 and 1989.
In 1989 Mayo also reached the All Ireland final under John’s stewardship. Since then he has gone on to manage Leitrim to their first ever Connacht title in 1994 and Galway to All Ireland successes in 1998 and 2001.

John O’ Mahony will work for Claremorris & Knock to ensure:
- Full, immediate re-opening of the Western Rail Corridor
- Provision of a dual carriageway from Claremorris to Galway and upgrade of the Claremorris – Ballyhaunis Road
- Immediate start-up for decentralised projects
- Provision of industrial and service industry
- Proper management of health and educational issues
- Continued expansion and success at Ireland West Airport Knock

John O’ Mahony will work for Ballyhaunis to ensure:
- Increased Garda presence
- A by-pass and upgrade of road infrastructure
- Development of local schools
- Tax designation to stimulate investment
- New community facilities
- Upgrading of Aughamore and Toreen sewerage schemes

John O’ Mahony will work for Kiltimagh to ensure:
- The provision of service and manufacturing industry
- A greater Garda presence
- An upgrade of roads in the area and a traffic management scheme for the town
- Re-opening of the County Council Office
- A new sewerage scheme and Kiltimagh extension to the Lough Mask Water Scheme
John O' Mahony will work for Foxford to ensure:
- Provision of an industrial base for the town
- Development of the banks of the Moy as a community amenity
- Support the Admiral Brown project to boost tourist numbers
- Proper planning and development, traffic management, roads and footpaths
- Completion of the Sports and Leisure Centre
John O' Mahony will work for Charlestown, Carracastle, Kilmovee, Doocastle and Cloontia to ensure:
- Planning rights for rural communities
- An upgrade of roads and better traffic management
- A greater Garda presence
- Provision of community facilities for young and old
- Preservation of rural post offices
- Continued development of St. Joseph’s Secondary School, Charlestown
- Dedicated water and sewerage schemes for Carracastle
- Provision of cultural facilities and elimination of derelict sites
- Continued expansion and success at Ireland West Airport
- The re-opening of the Western Rail Corridor
- Decentralisation without delay
- More recycling facilities
